So the troops have spoken, and it seems the consensus is that we keep reading and commenting on Megan's farewell post. She is still getting paid for pageviews, so while it does in a small way help everyone, it helps Megan too which is to me worth the trade off. She does not get paid for comments, however from things I have read Mr. Denton is kind of obsessive about them. So if we can get a "Deadspin Live Blog of the BCS National Championship Game" number of comments, it will be super impressive. Go team!
For those of you who would like to go there directly instead of going to Wonkette and rooting around and increasing their pageviews, there is a direct link here. It is up to over 17,000+ views!
There has also been some concern about the appropriateness of any letters to the editors and comments on Wonkette. The way I look at it, we are all adults, we are all intelligent, and we have legitimate gripes that we need to get out there. Therefore, we should be able to express ourselves without doing anything that is going to jeaprodize Megan's future at Gawker (because, again, Megan has nothing to do with this site and what we say - we are here to support her and her future).
That being said, I am not your mother (can you imagine how stretched out my vagina would be?). Gawker sites are known for pushing the envelope and not always being nice, so if your letters are a little "colorful", well, it certainly is language that they understand. I certainly like to throw out something completely inappropriate from time to time. A few of you have cc'ed me on letters to Ken and Nick, and while they are all distinctive, the creativity and logic of them have been uniformly excellent.
So with that, I bid you good night. It is off to the boyfriends. What he lacks in internet connection he makes up for with a well stocked bar, a huge HDTV on which we can watch the Australian Open, and a hot body to snuggle with on a cold night.

So I've recovered enough from my hangover(s) to post semicoherently. Have fun watching the Australian Open. I've gotta say, I've never been a tennis fan, but I just caught the Nadal-Mathieu game and I may be hooked. I seriously think Rafael Nadal may have the hottest ass ever to exist, it's like looking into the face of God.
You could use that ass as a drink holder. You could actually put a dinner plate on it and use it as a TV tray. It would feed a family of 4 for 2 weeks.
Feliciano Lopez and James Blake really bring the ass too.
Now I don't know if I'm hungry or horny. In any case, if you ever get around to starting Fuzzy Balls, you can count on me as a regular reader.
er can I ask, what is Fuzzy Balls ?
If anyone wants to play the drive-by game, this...
<a href="http://wonkette.com/346807/sooo-about-that-new-job-at-wonkette">Where's Megan?</a>
...will show up as this:
Where's Megan?
However, understand that Ken may ban yer ass for disruption, so use caution. I have a backup commenter account in case of execution, so I can risk it.
louisev: check HF's first post.
Nytol!
I just made an incursion on a summing-up post, and Ken Layne responded. Will not recount: I really have to go to bed, but it looks like he is, well, unmoved.
Checking in from the road in Montana. I found the insurgency by googling "wonkette boycott". I'm on strike through at least Friday, although I followed the NFC Championship on deadspin (and the espn gamecast) earlier because I had no tv, radio, or streaming audio. No beer either, because my hosts are in recovery.
I'll check in from time to time, and hit the link to MC Anon's last link if it will help. I sent a letter to Ken as well and cc'd Megan.
A lot of people have gone to New Mexico to stat over, although I don't see her living in a tipi on Taos Mesa.
/fades away like a shadow in the frozen night
CB(OS): Gad, you'd think that Ken was the aggrieved party...
Barring some unforeseen turn of events (Megan has yet to collect her thoughts), Ken's LiveJournal crack pretty much nailed the coffin shut for me. I'm going to stick around for the Neverending Post, but after that I'll be tending my garden at Defamer.
I'll miss the Wonketteer Top Guns, especially the Bureau, Publican, Flores/Serolf, and HF. Always a pleasure to read, even if much of the time I was just tossing an occasional spitball from the balcony.
And Redmanlaw. Knew that would happen if I started a list...
But while you're here, I've been meaning to ask: Are you familiar with Rennard Strickland? I don't know him personally, but in my civilian life his name turns up frequently.
He was a big deal in Indian law, because he edited Cohen's Handbook on Federal Indian Law although I first heard of him when I was an environmental lawyer and knew people at Oregon. One of my partners probably knows him professionally. I may have met him in Eugene at some point, but my priority on those trips was drinking massive amounts of beer at low altitude.
Ah. Thanks. I'm originally from Eugene, and still do a lot of freelance work for the UO -- in particular, design for law school publications. They're quite proud of Rennard there, but I was wondering how well his reputation carried beyond the development office.
For those not familiar with the town, I was born around the corner from the building later used as the Animal House exterior. Hated the movie, but it's a handy reference...
So "apparently", Ken is lashing out. Sorry, but I had to go look. This is somewhat disturbing to me because I've been hoping that on Monday maybe, or by Wednesday at least, we'd have a real explanation. I mean, I've still been wanting to give the dude some benefit of the doubt, however doubtful it seems.
I only signed up to be a Wonkette commenter because of this whole thing. (My pro-Megan audition worked!) I dugg as many Megan Carpentier articles as I could find (thanks JNOV!). But I've been a long-time reader - a couple/three years casually, but quite faithfully these last few months with Megan (and Jim!). I'm lazy & often anti-social (meaning absent & neglectful) on the internets (which you might not think since I do have a LiveJournal).
But I'm guessing I'm not the only heretofore non-commenter who's taking this thing hard. I love(d) Wonkette because I love/hate politics, have been in a general funk since November 2000, and I love to laugh. For reals, Wonkette's been the shit. And Megan made it better. (Wasn't around for Ana, so that's relative I guess.)
So as you can see from this comment, I'm not too good on the brevity & wit part - I fluctuate between the pedantic and the LOLZspeak (and often not ironically). Uh, and I use too many parentheses. And I preface and over-explain.
Sorry guys, what I'm trying to say is that Ken's "apparent" retort to Chicago Bureau (On Strike) is lame, disappointing, and a serious blow to whatever loyalty I had to Wonkette as a whole. All y'all all-stars are awesome, and I'm glad you're here for now.
HFA Forever! Er, till Wednesday! Er, Forever!
I'll check ya later, I'm gonna be celebrating diversity or something tomorrow (today) because Barry-O told me that my voice CAN change the world!
Oh, and RedManLaw, Native Love!
melissa: Welcome!
Ana certainly set the standard of informed wit for the enterprise -- emphasis on informed -- and she wasn't afraid to drop the guise if something really pissed her off. Or delighted her, which is where all the panda references come from.
Megan has a different voice than Ana, but her outrage over the Bhutto assassination coverage was definitely an Ana Moment -- screw the snark and go for the jugular. Wonkette definitely needs that; otherwise it's just ha-ha-look-at-the-stupid-politicians, and Paultard-baiting has a limited shelf life.
And -- how to put this -- Wonkette definitely benefits from a perspective different from Clever White Males. It's not a matter of News from the Gender Issue Ghetto, but that Megan is simply going to notice things I wouldn't. I already know how Clever White Guys think, after all, and I'm not a fan of echo chambers...
nojo: thanks.
I have to admit I usually skipped over the Anonymous Lobbyist posts. But she had me at Korea Is Basically 'The Hills'; Burma Is Like Katie Holmes.
i went undercover to see what's going on over there and just did a little math.
the 29 layne posts on wonkette AFTER megans goodbye, has garnered all of 220 comments in total for all 29!
megan's last post--will be at 700 in a few hours...
something is working, if only our registered resistance. denton, et al is probably too much of an asshole to admit he may have erred, but at the very least we are supporting megan. and that matters and counts for a lot, to thank her- and commiserate.
